Black Diamond Carbon Laser

The Black Diamond Laser is a revolutionary laser treatment that is completely painless with minimal-to-zero downtime and equal to 4 chemical peels. How the carbon laser peel works

Carbon bonds to dead skin cells and penetrates pores: adhering to debris, oil and bacteria.

The laser is applied to the surface of the skin and the dark pigment from the carbon particles absorb the light. This light energy is converted into heat which in turn causes a mini explosion.

On the surface of the skin, as the explosion occurs the carbon is vaporized along with any bacteria, dirt, oil or dead skin cells. Because the pores are rapidly cleared – pores appear instantly smaller. The procedure also stimulates collagen production closing pores in the long run.

The carbon that has attached itself to dead and pigmentated skin are also removed improving pigmentation and uneven skin tone.

There’s very little discomfort or pain. The sensation has been described as a mild tingling or very slight pinch. No downtime. Just glowing skin which is truly clean.

What to Expect:

Treatment area is washed with a gentle cleanser

A medical grade purified carbon lotion is massaged evenly over the areas to be treated. The carbon lotion was allowed to penetrate the skin and follicles for 15–20 min

Small, opaque protective goggles are fitted to the client’s eyes and the laser applied beam to the treatment area.

At high peak power settings the carbon particles may producing a clearly audible cracking or popping sound, as well as smoke/ or burning smell with each single shot until the carbon particles are completely removed.

Most clients experience a mild sting during the procedure

Signs and severity of inflammation vary depending on the client’s goals (e.g. immediate brightening for an event as opposed to a course of more intense treatments). During the treatment clients will commonly experience reddening, warmth, discomfort, and slight swelling.

These symptoms may persist for a few hours up to 2 days or more after treatments (depending on the healing response). This is normal and may become more severe before it subsides. For more intense treatments, and to achieve more drastic results, clients can expect to experience drying, peeling, frosting and scabbing for several days after treatment. Instructions to follow Before treatment:

2-4 weeks before:

Discontinue irritants or strong products. These include, but are not limited to products containing Vitamin A, Benzoyl Peroxide, AHA’s, BHA’s, Hydroquinone, Glycolic acids etc.

Limit exposure strong light and sunlight; this includes tanning the area being treated.

Clients should not have any cosmetic/ aesthetic/ beauty procedures performed 2-4 weeks prior to treatment (except those treatments done at The Laser Loft). It is the client’s responsibility to inform the therapist if they have had such procedures done. These include, but are not limited to: Peels, Resurfacing, Microdermabrasion, Microneedling, Dermapen, Dermastamp, Laser, IPL, Light therapies Facials, Waxing, Bleaching, Threading, Sugaring, Electrical beauty treatments and all other procedures to the treatment area.

1-2 Days before:

Clients on anti-coagulants may experience increased bleeding. Consult your Doctor regarding discontinuation if necessary

Use only mild products on the skin

On the day of treatment:

If sensitive to the slight stinging sensation, clients may choose pain medication and/ anti-inflammatories. Exercise caution if using anti-inflammatories as this may increase tendency to bleed.

Always consult with a trained medical professional before using any form of medication - including those mentioned above.

Do not apply any products, cosmetics or deodorant to areas that will be treated as this may interfere with the treatment and/ cause infection.

Post Procedure Recommendations:

For 24 hours:

An hypoallergenic moisturiser (such as E45) and sunscreen (eg Bioderma SPF 50)

Should you experience any irritation consult your doctor or pharmacist about the use of an antibacterial cream, mild hydrocortisone cream, anti-inflammatory.

Do not apply any other products, cosmetics or deodorant to areas that have been treated as this may irritate the skin.

Avoid using hot water or abrasive products immediately until redness subsides.

Avoid excessive heat or sweating (eg. gym/ sauna) for 24 hours or until redness subsides

Wash with gentle cleansers and luke warm water.

Instructions to follow after treatment:

Day 2 and thereafter:

Use gentle cleanser and moisturiser on treated areas for 3-4 days.

You may continue to use the antibacterial cream, mild hydrocortisone cream, anti-inflammatory if a.

The use of a mild (baby) sunblock with SPF 50 or higher is advocated (on top of the moisturizer)

Application of makeup may be resumed 2-3 days (only when inflammation has healed completely) after the procedure and any active skin care products can be resumed in 5 to 7 days (only when all traces of skin erythema/ redness have resolved completely).

Symptoms may persists for 2 weeks or more post treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Generally the treated areas recover rapidly. However there are occasional side effects, which include:

Dryness, redness, discomfort, pain, and slight swelling during the recovery phase is common

Frosting and peeling may be seen occasionally

Skin infection, burning or bruising (very rare)

Milia, which can be easily removed

Acne flare, which is usually mild and very rare

Treatment Contraindications:

Clients with the following conditions should consult their doctor before treatment. Clients who have:

been on any light sensitizing medications in the last 3-6 months

experienced and/ or have been treated for acne in the last 3 months

keloidal predisposition,

Immunosuppression

conditions including, but not limited to: skin cancer, radiation, blood thinning medication, hepatitis, fever blisters, herpes, contagious/ non-contagious skin conditions, sunburns/ tan, auto-immune deficiency, immune deficiency, clotting abnormalities, burns, Botox, collagen fillers, implants, augmentations, prosthesis, skin graph, and any other condition, illness or procedure.

Treatment will be delayed in clients with a history of recent sun exposure (or who are visibly tanned) until all traces of suntan have faded to avoid post-treatment dyspigmentation

Homecare:

Treatment is initiated at the clinic but must be continued at home, on a daily basis as prescribed. Results are accelerated when professional treatments are maintained with homecare products.

The treatment must not be interrupted and cannot be combined with other products/ treatments, as the results and/ appearance of undesired effects cannot be predicted.

A customised range of products will be prescribed after a skin assessment has been conducted and a detailed medical history noted.

How many and how often will I need to come for treatments?

A course of treatments is required in order to see the desired benefit. This course will be customized according to the age/severity and cause of your condition.

Treatments are done 4 weeks apart.

The number of procedures depends on the individual skin condition. For example, four to six treatments may be needed for moderate conditions, while more stubborn conditions such as severe acne may require up to 10 procedures.

Maintenance treatments may also be required for conditions such as ageing skin: 2-4 refresher skin treatments are recommended every year.
